RCI President’s Report
Eight people attended the April meeting of Rosebank Community Inc.
The major items of discussion were the relationship of RCI to the VJ; and the arrangements for taking, distributing a draft and finally accepting the minutes at the following meeting.
Garth and Lydia tabled a letter that they had received from LCC asking for suggestions about the entry sign to Rosebank. It will be reported in the VJ and circulated through the Rosebank Email list.
Village Journal:
1. We noted that the RCI Committee had, between meetings, agreed to the proposition that we subscribe to the Arts Law Association of Australia to provide RCI with a legal advisory service.
2. We endorsed the appointment of Alicia as VJ bookkeeper, replacing Chris Smart on accounts;
3. Endorsed Julian and Vanessa as being responsible for layout;
4. Resolved that RCI pay for the purchase of a laser printer for use by the VJ layout people, with a limit of $500
5. Carried the following notice of motion: ‘That Rosebank Community Inc adopts the draft VJ Mission and Objectives as submitted in the Notice of Motion, in execution of its statutory duty of responsible management and due diligence towards the VJ’. A full copy of the notice of motion can be obtained from the Secretary or by emailing me on atdavies@bigpond.com .
6. Adopted VJ Operating Principles, tabled by Garth. Available as above on request.
Minutes of Meetings.
The following motion was adopted: ‘That the handwritten minutes are the true and accurate record of the meeting and the typed minutes are only a direct copy of these, not open to corrections/additions unless circulated and not disputed by those in attendance, prior to any bulk email out. At this point it becomes a draft and can be circulated to the community with any dispute also communicated. The minutes will then be ratified at the next meeting’.
VJ Liability Insurance.
It was resolved that we look at insurance again and Laurie undertook to get more quotes to be tabled at the next meeting. Laurie will also put tonight‘s motion to the Arts Law Association of Australia to see if this helps with the situation of defamation.
Notice of Motion: ‘If funding for the VJ defamation insurance isn’t forthcoming by the AGM, that the motion at the February meeting: ‘That RCI formally recognise its proprietorship of the Village Journal’ be rescinded’ – notice given by Garth.
