RCI President’s Report

Seven people attended the June meeting of Rosebank Community Inc.

The major items of discussion were the relationship of RCI to the VJ; the reports of the Rosebank Roads Improvement Group, Landcare, the Halls and the Recreation Reserve.

Village Journal:

1. Following the RCI decision to accept the ownership of the VJ earlier in the year we resolved to confirm Garth and Lydia Kindred as the editors and to thank them for their work over the years.

2. There was much discussion around Laurie Stubbs’s proposal about the reporting requirements of the editor(s). Points of difference emerged and it was agreed that it become an item for discussion at the August meeting following further clarification and discussion before that time. (Since the meeting there have been modifications to Laurie’s proposal which the VJ Production Team has decided to put as a notice of motion to the August meeting - please contact me if you would like a copy of the notice of motion.)

3. The matter of Professional Indemnity (defamation insurance) cover for the VJ remains unresolved. The executive will be voting on the acceptance of a $742.23 quote before the August meeting. Unless the decision is unanimous it will go to the August meeting for decision. I believe that the executive is divided on philosophical as well as pragmatic grounds as to whether or not we should seek to cover the VJ. $742.23 is well beyond RCI’s annual income. VJ remits $440 to RCI per annum which goes part of the way. Your views, suggestions and participation in the August meeting would be helpful and appreciated.

Rosebank Roads Improvement Group

John Zaat reported on correspondence between the Group and LCC. LCC reported on the 5 outstanding projects:

Eureka Rd corner ‘fixed’ but still needs pavement sealed.

Tree removal near school will be done in July/August.

Rosebank Hall entrance… LCC will do detailed study - been made priority No 2. When will it be undertaken?

Dunoon Road – to be graveled not sealed.

Re Stan’s request to grade Fox Rd. He has lost interest.

RRIG responded requesting definite dates and commitments.

John reported on the previous night’s meeting with LCC and the local community at the Corndale Hall.

He said there is simply not enough money to give towards fixing more roads. Money is being given to other projects in preference to roads. Laurie noted that 80% of ratepayers think our roads are terrible. We get only 2.5 % increase in our funding while we pay an increase of 3.5% per year in rates.

Landcare

Rosebank Landcare had a working bee last month, accomplishing a lot, and will have another one this coming Saturday June 21- 9 til11 am.

Garth reported that there are no Fox Rd and Upper Coopers Creek Landcares any more. So Rosebank may now be the umbrella group again.

Halls

Repentance Creek Hall has had some good community gatherings and will be having a working bee there on Saturday 19th July from 12 noon till 3pm - a barbeque will be provided by the hall committee.

Rosebank Hall has had vandalism recently but it is being tidied up.

Rosebank Reserve Trust

A surge of interest in creating a kid’s play park on the sunny side. Insurance will be covered by the State Department of Lands. Garth suggested that a project team be created with the blessing of the Trust who will oversee legalities and safety concerns – see the July edition of the VJ for more detail.

Next Meeting is both the AGM and General Meeting at 7 pm Wednesday 20th August 2008 at the Rosebank Hall.

At the AGM the Committee for the next year will be elected. The Committee comprises 4 Office bearers, President, Vice-president, Treasurer and the Secretary and 3-5 ordinary members. Three Committee members including the President will not be standing and so please consider standing for the Committee in one of the roles.

Laurie Stubbs, a long term activist in the Rosebank community and recent member of the RCI Committee has resigned from the RCI to focus on other time commitments in the community. I wish to thank Laurie for active involvement while he has been on the RCI executive and in particular to his energy and support over the last 3 years of my involvement.
