Rosebank Community Inc Update

Five people attended the January meeting of Rosebank Community Inc, at which the need for a Rosebank Post Office, the 20th birthday celebration of the Village Journal and the relationship between RCI and the Village Journal were the major items of discussion.

The president tabled the letter sent to AusPost based on the needs survey. He had not received a response as at the time of the meeting. He also reported that he had contacted AusPost, the federal member’s office, Didier Marceau and Michael Beeson to find out the current situation to report to the meeting. He said it appeared as if AusPost had inspected the corner store and were still to decide on the viability of the store as a venue for reestablishing a postal service. AusPost emailed the President saying they would let us know once a decision was made.

It was decided that the President write to the Minister for Communications if he had not received a satisfactory reply from AusPost by the second week in February.

A 20th birthday party for the VJ is planned for Feb 17th or 24th from 4-6 pm at Rosebank Hall, where the Music Club will take over from 7 pm. All are welcome and those associated with the VJ in the past are invited to bring memorabilia and to address the gathering if they wish or have their arms appropriately twisted.

Refreshments will be supplied along with punch, tea and coffee. Other beverages are BYO. There is no charge as the VJ is covering the cost of band, hall hire and food. However any donations on the night would be appreciated.

Relationship between the RCI and the Village Journal.

Alan reported on the relationship in the following terms.

o Legally it is likely that there is no formal relationship (Office of Fair Trading 29/01/07, to be clarified with a search). The official constitution was registered in 1998 and there have been no changes since that time.

o The constitution I have been operating off since becoming President was tabled at the AGM 2001 as a draft. It seems it was not submitted to Fair Trading for registration. The draft does not mention any relationship between RCI and VJ.

o At a meeting of the VJ Production Team yesterday, it was agreed that the following was the Production Team’s preferred relationship to RCI: ‘The VJ is run as a self-managing publishing business owned by RCI (a not-for-profit organisation). The VJ Production Team establishes and is guided by its own operating principles.’

The president suggested the following action, which was supported by the meeting:

‘That as a matter of urgency the RCI executive, in consultation with the VJ Production Team and the Rosebank Community reviews the constitution and relationships to the VJ and other Rosebank Community groups with a view to approving and subsequently registering any changes at the AGM in July 2007.’

Your views on the most desirable relationship would be appreciated - either by post to 509 Rosebank Rd, Rosebank or email to atdavies@bigpond.com.

The next Meeting will be on Monday, 26th February 2007 at 7.30 pm at the Rosebank Hall.
