RCI President’s Report
Ten people attended the September meeting of Rosebank Community Inc, which included Michael Beeson and Didier Marceau - who gave us updates on the future of the Rosebank Corner Store and Post Office respectively.
Michael has indicated to me that he has been open for business for some weeks and is interested in knowing the range of goods that locals wish him to stock other than the basics of milk, bread, other basic foods, papers and petrol. As of this week he will also be offering coffee and hot take away pies etc. For certain items such as petrol the cost to Rosebank Residents will be lower than for tourists. He has added internet access, some tools, seedlings and communication equipment to his range. He also indicated that he had provided Didier Marceau space to re-introduce the PO.
The opening date of the PO awaits four things: structural alterations to the shop to ensure the post is under the control of the post master/mistress, due diligence checks and training of the intending post master, and guarantees of continuity of operation of the PO on the Rosebank Corner. Didier hopes all of these hurdles will have been jumped within a month. s Treasure
I strongly recommend that Rosebank residents support the shop and the Post Office to the extent that they can. Michael reported that ‘The name of the shop is in limbo as the old community name ‘Rosebank General Store’ has been taken. I don’t expect this will be an issue so long as service is available on the corner.
Rosebank Community Inc is looking for support and skills in the community for two areas. The first is writing grant applications, particularly in support of our two halls, Rosebank and Repentance Creek and help in general maintenance and increased patronage, as well as Landcare. The second is in promoting community activities through the regional media. Anybody willing to help in these regards should ring Garth on 66882220, or me on 66882104.
Finally I would like to thank, on the community’s behalf, Catherine Knight and Benny Glasman for their selfless contribution to the Rosebank Community. Catherine primarily in her capacity a
r of RCI and involvement in Landcare. Benny for his contribution to Landcare, community events and the VJ. We will miss you and good luck in your Canberra adventure.
Next Meeting October 30 at 7.30pm at the Rosebank Hall. If you would like a copy of the minutes of the last Meeting please either ring me on 66882104 or email me on atdavies@bipond.com.
